Upon returning home from the 1957 European tour, Orchestra members sent clothing to Polish musicians after seeing their economic plight. Members of the Katowice Philharmonic sent this Polish blanket and dolls in traditional dress as a thank you gift. Both are stored in our Archives.
After his wife’s tragic passing, John Severance devoted his time, energy and love into the building of Severance Hall as a memorial to her. John left no detail out—Architectural embellishments in the building incorporate both the lotus, Elizabeth’s favorite flower, and the lace pattern of her wedding dress.
